Woodchuck Repellents
Ro-pel® is a versatile repellent that gives a harmless but very bitter taste to all chewables and edibles you want to protect. As a result, it has a well-deserved place in the work of repelling woodchucks from flower gardens–as well as repelling raccoons, squirrels, mice rats, dogs, cats, birds, and even deer. In dealing with woodchucks, use Ro-pel® to treat plants (flowering plants, not vegetables) that they have been attacking or that you expect them to attack. Because many plants grow fast, and attackers will find that new shoots taste just fine, this spraying must be repeated every few weeks during the growing season. Even so, Ro-pel® provides a sound way of dealing with the woodchuck problem in non-vegetable areas. Ro-pel® also protects seeds and bulbs. A simple soaking for one minute in Ro-pel® before planting will make your seeds and bulbs unpalatable to foraging animals. Shake-Away™ Small Critter Powder - OMRI Listed for Organic Gardening
Shake-Away™ Small Critter Powder is a refined form of fox urine that comes as a powder. One 20-ounce container (see below) holds enough to create a protective strip one foot wide and 600 feet long around the perimeter of a vegetable garden. One 3 lb container creates a protective strip one foot wide and 1,440 feet long. Shake-Away™ can also be sprinkled lightly over vulnerable bulbs, bushes, and flowers (which it will not harm) for maximum coverage. This repellent needs to be replenished fairly often—most notably after a heavy rain. It may also lose its effectiveness over time because target animals residing nearby may eventually deduce that there are no foxes around despite the presence of fox scent. |
